Our home tells a story. It’s an expression of our values, what makes us unique, & the things that inspire us. Design is our means of intentionally expressing those things & building functionality into our lives that supports our biggest goals.

So let’s get started. Here’s how you can design your dream home.

Outer Expressions of Our Inner World

Design is our opportunity to create an outer expression of our inner world. It helps us to reinforce our personal & family culture. It is a great source of inspiration & outlet of creativity. Design allows us to display what makes us unique as a family and enhances our ability to complete divine missions together.

Not only does design make things easy on the eyes & mind, but one of its primary purposes is to provide greater function & organization to our lives. This will help us as we continue to grow as a family & improves our quality of life when completed with intention.

Step 1: Define Your Goals

How can our home enhance our culture & help us complete our biggest goals? This question should be at the forefront of our minds when we start considering home design. It’s why culture has to come first. If you want extra help to develop that culture, start with the Foundation First course. From there, we can derive answers to the following questions:

  • What are our priorities?

  • What does our lifestyle look like?

  • What are our daily routines?

  • What are our family’s “uncommon needs/wants”? (Not a cookie-cutter home, but specifics that tie to our personal family culture)

  • What are our storage needs?

  • What functions can the home help to provide?

  • What does our future look like? Do we need room for growth/adaptability?

Step 2: What Lights You Up?

How will our home continually inspire us? This is where we will see more consideration of atmosphere. Things like:

  • Colors (moods), patterns, styles, furniture, etc.

  • Views you want to frame/highlight

  • Elements that reflect your values

    • Art, heirlooms, etc.

Step 3: Real Talk

What is possible for us now? What are our non-negotiables? Of course we want to dream, and there are many solutions for making our dreams realities. Crucial considerations for moving forward with action include:

  • Budget

  • Current home’s frustrations

  • Non-negotiables

Your Home Tells Your Story

Every detail of your home can help to convey who you are. The design is a reflection of what you love and what you value. Your consideration for the details will translate into telling your story. Your values will be emulated in the tangible pieces of your home. If you aren’t sure how to display your values because you aren’t even sure what they are yet, I have just the thing for you. The best first step we know is to complete the 3-Day Vision Starter Kit. Not only will this help you start to visualize your dream life (and in turn the home that life exists in), but it will help you define your values & get you moving towards living a life guided by them. You can grab that for FREE here! If you want to start with the foundation of it all, join our Foundation First course. Here you will be guided to become the most capable manager of your life & home, building the vision your life needs to move in the direction of living the dream inside that dream home. You can find that here!

Your home, the one you are in right now, can be a dream home. And we are here to help you create it no matter where you’re starting.

Where to Start:

The first step to all intentional design is evaluating function. Identify one space in your home that isn’t working the way you hope. Determine what the space should be used for — what is the purpose of this space? Is the space conversational? Is it for entertainment/media? Is it a workspace? Once the purpose is determined, identify how you can rearrange, reorganize & declutter the space to better meet its purpose. Be sure to take before & after pictures to further enjoy any work you put into the space!
